23 things plus 5: VuFind

time to do another of the library 23 things plus 5 tasks...

VuFind works well the National Library of Australia catalogue. i appreciate the links to the online visual material and the integration of various apects of a library page. (catalogue, electronic journals etc). i guess that it is indicative of the way the internet has been changing the way that i think about a library catalogue. NLA, especially through it's picture asutralia site, has meant that i have a higher expectation of visual material being freely available over the internet. sometimes i find it frustrating that all i have is the catalogue record for something, even though it's more than i may have had in the past.

the following site from the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities is a case in point. 'The Consortium of MnPALS Libraries is composed of all of the libraries of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, as well as private college and university libraries, state government libraries, public libraries, school libraries and special libraries.' (http://www.mnpals.org/sections/MnPALS_Consortium.html) it's remarkable that i can access all records for all the material from a broad range of libraries, but as a visual person, i do like images.

installation in process

a couple of in process shots of my piece in the honours exhibition. the gallery space is quite square and has a pillar in the middle. it's been interesting observing how people have been looking at the exhibition. some people seem to altogether miss that i've used the pillar. they start at one side or the other and walk around the outside, looking at the work.

two details

two details from my in-situ wall piece, 'something shimmering and white'. the paint exposes the wall and shows up all the work that has gone before, all the repairs from nails and plastering (sometimes badly done). the purple/mauve is a resistance paint, on the gold background it comes up in this shade, on a black background it is violet. the title is a line out of 'under the milky way' by the church.

the opening went well, it was a great evening.

honours show

here's an poster for my honour's show. it opens on wednesday. i finished the work today. it's in situ, drawn and painted on the wall. it should be a good show. all four of us work in abstraction, and a more lyrical style of abstraction, yet we are completely different. (not that surprising really, just interesting stuff to talk about when in the studio.) now just to finish off a couple of things for assessment tomorrow...
